Apprenticeship

We mentor people seeking to turn their personal wonder and gifts into an earth-based livelihood. Apprentices work alongside biodynamic and regenerative farmers learning to cultivate flowers, herbs, and vegetables in harmony with nature using methods that benefit the local ecosystem.  In the second phase, they choose a focus and begin to ideate a future business. Apprentices specialize in one of four areas:  growing, healing, nourishing or artistry.

Growing

All apprentices focus initially on healthy soil and growing plants, simultaneously learning a way of living and working that emerges from the rhythmic cycles of nature.  Those who continue with growing as their specialization will learn about wild cultivation, nutrient-dense foods, medicinal herbs, fanciful fruits, flowers, and aromatics in a variety of possible settings: garden, farm, orchard, and food forest.

Healing

Apprentices who choose the healing path explore the synergies between ecological and human health.  Many modalities of plant processing will be encountered, such as hydrosols, essential oils, tinctures, salves, fermented preparations, and extractions.

Nourishing

The nourishing path centers on the relationships between farms, families and chefs, bringing ecological, social, and personal healing through food.  Apprentices work alongside local chefs and farmers, harvesting, preparing and cooking in the garden or field, and in outdoor kitchens as much as possible. 

Artistry

Apprentices who choose the plant artistry path explore many ways to create objects of beauty from natural materials, balancing form and function.  Areas of discovers include ancestral crafts, weaving of baskets and  textiles, living weaving, ceramics, tool making, and natural plant dyes.
